CONCEPT
Resonance of Scent
Resonance of Scent is a project in which designer Flavien Delbergue offers a fresh perspective on Japanese incense from Awaji Island. Deeply engaged with Japanese craftsmanship for over ten years and collaborating with perfume and fragrance brands in Paris, this project reflects on the gestures and rituals that surround incense. Delbergue presents a series of objects—from incense boxes to holders—each highlighting local craftsmanship and a refined aesthetic, all designed to showcase the true essence: the incense itself.

From his viewpoint, we will explore what aspects of Japanese craftsmanship attract foreign designers, and create an opportunity to discuss how we, through this wacca project, can foster meaningful connections with overseas markets.

Designers
Flavien Delbergue is a France-based designer. At the age of 20, Flavien Delbergue discovered the world of Japanese craft through the artisans gathered under the name GO ON. This immersive experience shaped his understanding of making and the simplicity of everyday Japanese objects. After graduating from École Boulle in 2015, he moved to Denmark and joined OEO Studio, where he worked on international projects and embraced the Scandinavian art of living. Enriched by these formative experiences, he founded Studio Flavien Delbergue in 2016. He works in the fields of product design, interior architecture, hospitality, creative and strategic direction, with a wide range of clients mainly in Europe and Japan. He was laureate of the Académie des Savoir-Faire 2018 by the Fondation d'entreprise Hermès and a finalist in Design Parade 14 at Villa Noailles, Hyères in 2019. He was nominated as "Under 30" by the Tokyo 2020 DesignArt selection committee. In 2023, his studio became the first design company to join the Franco-Japanese Exchange Committee. In 2024, he was laureate of the Nuit Blanche Kyoto Contest and organized an exhibition in collaboration with Shuji Nakagawa. Later this year, he became the first winner of the Competition France Éclat in the tableware category.
